Our Story
Taroko School has a singular vision: to make a long-lasting contribution to the
Modderfontien community through a dedicated investment in its children. Taroko School does this because we believe that our children represent the future generation of critical thinkers, innovators, inventors and problem solvers, and that their concepts, efforts and unique talents will uplift not only their immediate community, but the whole of South Africa.
Our goal aligns with that of our partner, Generation Schools, who aims to reach each child as an individual within the context of their community. Generation Schools is already known for their unique approach to education, which inspires curiosity, fuels knowledge and creates a lifelong hunger for learning in children from early phase to university. By partnering with such a pioneering educational visionary, Taroko School is making a commitment to limitless learning that allows each child to realise their own potential.

The Montessori Approach
Leading educational specialists agree that education is best seen as an interaction between the
child and their environment. By understanding this dynamic, we can create better educational
experiences for all students.
In a Montessori environment, students are encouraged to question, explore, and make
connections. This fosters confidence, enthusiasm, and self-direction in learners while
developing vital 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and boldness.
Cambridge
At Taroko School, we believe that every student has the potential to succeed. That is why we offer a curriculum based on the programmes of the University of Cambridge International Examinations
group. Our primary students will begin their journey with Cambridge Primary, and our senior
students will have the opportunity to take IGCSE, AS and A Level examinations.
With these integrated international programmes, our students will be able to transition smoothly
through the years of schooling and onto a path of success in a stimulating,
Sí Institute
The Sí pathway provides an opportunity for students to accelerate their learning by exploring
alternative approaches while still in high school. This programme offers a variety of school exit
credits, allowing students to tailor their educational experience to their individual needs and
interests.
Sí employs a blended methodology to education, whereby students partake in both online and
on-campus learning. Sí is also asynchronous, allowing students to commence at any time of
year and permitting them to work through content at their own pace while acquiring priceless
real-world experience.
GenEx
Taroko School uses GenEx, a cloud-based learning tool, to support students and
educators on their learning journey. GenEx provides personalised learning paths, resources,
and support to help every student succeed. It’s the one things we can believe can change
everything in education.
Wellness
Taroko School understands that emotional health is essential for learning and growth. That’s why we strive to create a safe and supportive environment where every child can thrive. The wellness department at our school strives to provide support for the school sports curriculum, healthy
eating, personal and social education, and onsite health. We also aim to promote integration, building health and social care links and developing these for the school in our community.
